Ogun, OSSAP Hand Over Health, Education Facilities To LGAs
The Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President (OSSAP) on SDGs, in collaboration with the Ogun State Government has handed over blocks of classrooms, Toilets, Borehole and Health Centres to six selected Local Government Areas (LGAs), under the 2015 Conditional Grant Scheme (CGS) Track Projects, so as to further achieve the mission of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the State.
Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Ms. Adenrele Adesina during the handing over ceremony, said SDG was one of the development interventions brought to the State by the Federal government to give support to education, health, water and sanitation related projects at the grassroots.
While handing over the keys of the classrooms to beneficiaries, the Commissioner said investing in education sector was a seed that would germinate and bring back mighty trees in the future, advising the children to see themselves as future leaders that would bring glory to the State.
Speaking on the health facilities, Adenrele reiterated government determination to ensure efficient health care delivery to the citizens, while noting that, the gesture would be replicated in other LGAs, she said, despite the economic challenges in the country, government at both levels had been able to fulfil their promises to the people of Ogun State.
“The people of Ogun State, especially the children are the most valuable asset, when we do things with the right heart and internal value, our labour shall never be in vain” she said.
In his remark, the Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Olatunde Okewole, represented by the Board Secretary, Mr. Wasiu Kuye, lauded the government for its efforts at ensuring qualitative education at the primary school Level, which he described as the foundation for other levels of education.
He advised the schools’ management and pupils to put the facilities to good use and ensure adequate maintenance.
In her welcome address, the Director of Planning and Research, Ministry of Budget and Planning, who is also the SDGs State Focal Person, Mrs. Yetunde Olatunbosun, said SDGs with the slogan, “No one must be left behind”, was determined to identify gaps and fill them at the grassroots, in order to take development to every parts of the State.
She recalled that Agricultural Cooperative Societies and Treasurers of the benefiting Local Government Areas had earlier been trained for better service delivery, to make life easier and improve standard of living of citizens.
In their various remarks, the Community Chairman Abeokuta North Local Area, Mr. Babawale Olayiwola, the Baba Oloja of Awolowo Market, Sagamu, Mr. Babatunde Adunbiagbe, Head teachers and PTA Chairmen, appreciated the State Government for the landmark achievement, saying that it was the first of its kind and promised adequate utilisation of the facilities.
Local Government Areas where the projects were sited included; Ijebu-Ode, Sagamu, Abeokuta North, Ado-Odo-Ota, Ifo and Obafemi Owode .
