Ogun Residents Benefit From Free Eye Surgical Operation
Ogun state government has flagged off free treatment of people living with eyes cataract and glaucoma tagged ‘President Buhari Restores Vision Project’, a Free Eye Screening, Cataract and Glaucoma Surgeries, organized for the residents towards combating the menace of blindness in the state.
The event organized by the State Ministry of Health, in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Health and Ophthalmologist Association of Nigeria, Ogun state Chapter, was held at the General Hospital in Odeda.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye while underscoring the purpose of the event, said the programme was aimed at screening and operating about 10,000 individual across the country while over 270 would be benefited across the three Senatorial district of the State, adding that the event was not done out of sheer ordinary effort but in response to current administrations mandate.
“This programme is an historical event because it’s got Presidential Mandate, aimed at operating at least 10,000 Nigerians while 270 will be operated in all the three senatorial district in the State. And this programme is not just a sheer ordinary effort but response to our mandate,” Ipaye stated.
Ipaye stated further that as health was central to economic viability, the Ibikunle Amosun-led administration would make sure that no stone was left unturned at ensuring that health of citizens was appropriately catered for, hence the investment on the Community Based Health Insurance Scheme (CBHIS), tagged “Araya”.
While appreciating the ophthalmologist Association of Nigeria for its support, Dr. Ipaye disclosed that more citizens with eye challenges would soon be attended to under the state’s health insurance scheme.
Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Hospital Management Board, Dr. Ayinde Adesanya represented by Director of Planning, Research and Statistic of the Board, Dr. Wellington Ogunsanya disclosed that over 160 beneficiaries have been screened so far, with 40 of them already selected for surgeries, saying that the necessary gadgets and equipment were on ground to carry out the surgery.
Some of the beneficiaries, Akinsire Ogundele, Rafiu Sorinola, and Mrs. Atoke Adekunle and many others, appreciated President Mohammadu Buhari and the State Government for the initiative, submitting that the intervention was indeed free, fair and easily accessible.
