OAU Produces 124 First Class Graduates
About 124 out of 5,292 graduating students of Obafemi Awolowo University will be awarded First Class Bachelor degree during the 44th convocation of the institution.
He noted that all stakeholders came together to resolve that henceforth, irregular academic programmes must be brought to an end in OAU not only to enhance international ranking but to ensure credibility.
The Vice-chancellor disclosed that a total of Seven Thousand, Two hundred and nine 7,209 degrees for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes will be awarded during the convocation ceremonies.
According to him, 5,292 of them are for first degrees while 1,917 are for postgraduate degrees.
“Of this, 4,756 are classified bachelor degrees: while the rest 536 are unclassified
“Furthermore, 124 of graduands have First Class Honours: 1,795 have Second Class  Honours, (Upper Division), 2,256 have Second Class, (Lower Division) 542 and 39 are graduating with Third Class Honours and Pass respectively
“In the category of unclassified Bachelor degrees, 2 have Pass with Honours, 16 have Pass with Distinction, 90 have Pass with Credit: while 428 have Pass.
“Similarly, of the 1,917 Postgraduate degrees: 59 are Postgraduate Diploma: 923 are Professional Masters: 675, 52, and 208 are Masters with Research Thesis: Master of Philosophy: and Doctor of Philosophy respectively.
“Non-degree Diplomas have a total of One Hundred and twenty-two graduands: Sixteen of whom are leaving with Distinction: 46 with Upper Credit, 58 with Lower Credit and 2 with Pass.
He noted that three distinguished Nigerians which included Mr. Biodun Olusina Shobanjo, Dr. Benedict Okey Oramah and Mrs IbukunOluwa Abiodun Awosika will be awarded PhD (Honoris Causa) at the event that will come up on the 14th December 2019.
