200 Varsities Expected As OAU Hosts WAUG
The Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife will play host to no fewer than 200 universities from Nigeria and West Africa sub-region at the next edition of the West African Universities Games (WAUG).
His words: “We have put in place all necessary arrangements to make the stay of all officials, participants and their handlers worthwhile, particularly in terms of accommodation and medical facility”.
According to the vice chancellor, the Championship, which comprises Tennis, Table Tennis, Basketball and Athletics, will feature sportsmen and women from Universities in Nigeria and Universities from Countries within West Africa sub – region.
Bamire who lauded the preparatory contribution of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde who, within a very short notice, rendered unbelievable assistance towards the hosting of the sporting events also applauded Senator Ademola Adeleke for his fatherly disposition and the commitment of his administration towards event.
He disclosed that the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji – Ojo has consented to be the Special Guest of Honour at the opening and closing ceremonies of the event.
The vice chancellor pleaded with spirited individuals, corporate organisations, captains of industry, members of the Diplomatic Corps, Seasoned administrators and sports enthusiasts to assist the university financially and materially forster unique hosting of the championship.
