NURTW Official Commits Suicide In Ibadan
Oke-Seni area of Ibadan, Oyo State, was on Wednesday, thrown into a state of confusion when news filtered in that a 43 year old commercial motorcyclist and father of three children identified as Adebisi Adesina committed suicide by hanging himself in his room.
It was gathered that the dead body of the man was found dangling from a rope on his neck, when the door to his room was forced opened.
Sources said that neighbours of the 43 year old man, said to be an official of the okada wing of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Oniyanrin Unit, became suspicious when the late Adesina was yet to be sighted outside at about 10a.m on the fateful day.
The neighbours were said to have resolved to force his doors open on sensing that he was still in the room but never responded to the knocking and banging on the door to his one room apartment.
It was gathered that his two wives and three children reportedly abandoned him as he was said to be suffering from abnormal enlargement of the scrotum.
Most of the sympathizers at the scene including residents of Idikan community alleged that Adesina might have committed suicide because of the shame brought to him by the strange ailment which forced his children and wives to desert him.
He was said to have suddenly developed the habit of excessive alcohol consumption and always keeping to himself.
Commenting on the incident, Chairman of Okada wing of NURTW, in Ibadan Laskabo Oniyanrin unit, Mr Kabiru Kebe, said that the deceased left the park at about 7.00p.m on Monday, and was expected to resume by 6.00a.m on Tuesday for distribution of union tickets to members.
He stated that when Adesina was not seen at the park by 10 a. m. yesterday, some union members decided to visit his house to collect the tickets from him but that on getting to the deceased’ s house, met the door to his room locked, but with traces that someone was inside.
Kebe said that after the door was forced opened, the dead body of Adesina was found hanging from the rope.
As at the time of sending this report, men of the Oyo State Police command from the Mokola police divisional headquarters had visited the scene and removed Adesina’s body.
