NUBIFIE Threatens To Shut Down Banks If…

National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions (NUBIFIE) has threatened to embark on a nationwide strike if Nigerian police fails to release its President Comrade Danjuma Musa who was arrested and detained last week.

Addressing press conference on Monday in Lagos, the General Secretary, Muhammed Sheikh explained that the union President remains incommunicado since Friday, saying the union concluded, at its NEC meeting, to embark on strike.

According to him, the Inspector General of police should know that he cannot work for a group of people against Nigerian workers and leadership of NUBIFIE. The general public should endeavor to withdraw their money from banks as from Monday May 15, 2017 because we will ensure all banks are closed if Danjuma Musa is not released in good condition of health.

The Secretary stressed that some people who were no longer members of NUBIFIE have been going to court claiming to be part and parcel of it.

“This is unfortunately an intra-Union dispute which has been adjudicated and settled by the relevant courts but which the losing party who is not a member of the Union has decided to resurrect via the instrument of trumped up charge of threat to life and stealing”, he added.

He said the union members would embarked on a peaceful protest to Area F police station at Ikeja to request for the release of their President.

The union therefore called on the IGP to direct his officers to distant themselves from union matters except the IGP want to become the President of the union.
