NSCDC Nabs 2 Men With 15,000 Litres Adulterated Diesel
Men of the Ekiti state Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC on Wednesday said they have arrested two suspects with adulterated Automotive Gas Oil, (AGO) loaded in a trailer with 15,000 litres.
The suspects, Olagunju Mukaila, the driver, Male 40 years and Olarewaju Lukman, Motor boy, Male 39 years were arrested in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State with fake waybill and other counterfeit letter head papers of oil companies from Warri, Delta State.
Speaking while parading the suspects to newsmen at the state command headquarters in Ado Ekiti, the NSCDC Commandant in the state, Mr Solomon Iyamu said the arrest were made following intelligent report by the officers on the field and men of the anti-vandal squad.
The officers, according to Iyamu trailed the trailer conveying the adulterated diesel believed to have been refined locally from the creek.
He said upon investigation, it was reliably gathered that the owner of the adulterated AGO, popularly called Diesel refused to show up and probably on the run, knowing the gravity of the offence.
“A sample tested from the product showed that it is below the standard specified by DPR. Such a case is an economic sabotage which attracts stiffer penalties and such act will not be condoled by NSCDC,” he said.
Iyamu pointed out that, the case will be transferred to a competent court of jurisdiction by the corps after the conclusion of the investigation
While warning the people to maintain law and order during the July 14, 2018 governorship election in Ekiti State Iyamu said the command is fully prepared for the election.
He called on politicians to play the game according to the rule, urging them to be law abiding and for politicians to shun “a do-or-die” politics.
The NSCDC boss posited that, “there would be deployment of NSCDC personnel to beef up security to protect lives and property before, during and after the election.
The two suspects while speaking with newsmen denied knowing the true state of the content of the AGO, whether it is illegal or legal, saying they were contacted to carry the content to a location in Ekiti State.
