Nigeria Has No Business With Poverty – Babington-Ashaye
For chairman and CEO of Accounting Education & Research Services (ACCERS), Mrs. Morenikeji Babington-Ashaye, there is no other way to improve Nigeria economy than prompt payment of taxes by individuals and corporate organisations.
Speaking recently in Lagos, Mrs. Ashaye insisted that nobody has the right to waste or misuse tax payer’s money “since government money are the people’s property”
Speaking further, Mrs. Morenikeji Ashaye stated that the welfare of the people is very important “We must bear in mind the welfare of the people in our society and the fact that the provision of social welfare programmes aimed at the eradication of poverty is not an act of charity”
‘The time is now when we must take governance seriously and ensure that all structures, processes and procedures that can engender good governance are put in place.
‘Nigeria has no business with poverty and poverty has no business being with us because we are blessed, so wonderfully blessed by God with natural and human resources, and we ought to be the envy of other nations”
Also speaking at the glamorous event that also had a former Nigeria minister and some important personalities in attendance, Mr. Joshua Oderinde, the former ICAN chairman and tax administrator in Nigeria said: “if we have a good tax policy, if it is effectively implemented and with what we made from other sources, we will have more than enough to take care of our people.
‘Our government has put in place some cost cutting measures that if they were well implemented, it will go a long way in salvaging our nation.’ he said.
