NEMA Distributes Relief Materials To Windstorm Victims In Kebbi

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA ) has distributed relief materials to 1000 victims affected by windstorm a fortnight ago in Maiyama local government area of Kebbi State .

The Director General of the agency , Engr. Mustapha Yunusa Maihaja made the presentation of the relief materials to the victims in Birnin Kebbi at the instance of the state governor, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu.

The relief materials comprises 200 bags of rice, maize and beans each while the non food items comprises 300 each of blankets , treated  mosquito nets , ceiling sheets, bags of cement and 50 packets of zinc nails.

He said that the donation of the items was in line with the principles of the agency to assist disaster victims in the country .

He stressed the need for emergency preparedness and early warning at local levels ” We have therefore empowered state emergency management agencies and local emergency management committees in emergency preparedness , mitigation,response and disaster management”

The new NEMA boss emphasized that disasters globally have been identified to hinder development and wiped out growth within a short period of time.

During his response , the Kebbi Governor State Governor, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu thanked NEMA for its timely response and urged the agency to also consider extending its effort in disasters that affect the agricultural sector by giving early warning information.

The State Chairman of Kebbi State Emergency Management Agency ( SEMA ) , Alhaji Sani Dododo thanked President Buhari and Vice President ,Yemi Osibanjo their concern to the storm victims of Kebbi State.

Leadership can recall that two weeks ago over 470 houses were destroyed by violent windstorm in Maiyama local government area of Kebbi State affecting over 1000 victims .
