NBA, JAF Walk Out Of Public Hearing On Lagos Land Use Charge

Members of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ikeja, branch and Joint Action Front ON Tuesday staged a walk out of the Public Hearing on the Land Use Charge on the premises that the 24 -hour notice given for the Public Hearing is not enough for the groups to take a cursory look at the Law and make their inputs.

The walk out is coming as some, stakeholders at the Public Hearing enjoined the Lagos House of Assembly to return to status quo regarding the newly introduced Land Use Charge.

The Nigerian Bar Association led by its Chairman Mr. Adesina Ogunlana also posited that a copy of the Law on Land Use Charge has not been made available for proper articulation of the Association and necessary action.

He averred that the Public Hearing should be deferred to between April 5 and 10 this year so as to give room for the Association to make its input adding that the Association will on Thursday March 29, 2018 embark on another protest against the law which has jerked up Land Use Charge by over 400 percent.

Members of the Association wore T Shirts with inscriptions such as ,”NBA Rejects Oppressive Taxes” and “No To Killing Taxes”.

Meanwhile, stakeholders at the Public Hearing also decried the astronomical increase in the Land Use Charge, adding that government should return to status quo and concentrate on expanding its dragnet for more people to Land Use Charge.
