Navy To Carry Out Daily Raids On Illegal Refineries
The Central Naval Command of the Nigerian Navy says it will resort to daily raids on the several hotspots in its area of operations in its determination to put the recalcitrant operators of illegal refineries out of business.
Flagging off Phase II of its new security exercise, Operation Octopus Grip II at the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Delta, Warri, Delta State, Wednesday, Flag Officer Commanding, FOC, Central Naval Command, Rear Admiral Bello Alhassan, said the consideration for daily offensives has become necessary against the undeterred perpetrators.
He said, “You can see that they are back in business at the camp on Bennet Island, near Warri, one of the largest illegal refinery hotbeds where we made arrest and destroyed equipment spread across over 30 hectares of land two weeks ago.
“We now deploy swamp-boogie in destroying their machinery. We no longer burn so we don’t contribute to destroying the environment. Since they regroup and resume almost immediately after we have destroyed their equipment, we are going to make sure we don’t give them breathing space. If possible, we will carry out raids on daily basis.”
