Mystery As Iroko Tree Bursts Into Flames In Lagos
Residents of Badagry and its environs on Monday witnessed yet another wonders of the world when an over 50-year-old Iroko tree suddenly burst into flames that raged for several hours.
Although nobody could explained how the fire got into the tree located on Topo garage in Badagry axis many residents blamed the incident on supernatural forces.
Men of the Lagos State Fire Service and other emergency agencies battled the fire with several trucks deployed to the scene, but surprisingly as they fought the fire with water mixed with chemical, the fire spread to other nearby buildings.
The fire which was said to have started on Sunday evening raged for almost 24 hours before it was put out around 5pm led to serious confusion and attracted several onlookers.
Confirming the inferno, the Director of Fire Service, Rasak Fadipe, said that the agency deployed several trucks from the nearby stations.
Also confirming the incident, Southwest spokesperson for National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye said:”Firemen on ground to prevent it’s spread to the nearby buildings . Surprisingly when water with chemical was applied the fire increase rapidly. The fire on the Iroko tree out now. Two branches of the tree burned down but the leaves are as fresh as if nothing has happened.”
