My Appointment Is Call To Greater Responsibility – FUTA VC
The newly inaugurated Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure, (FUTA), Prof. Joseph Adeola Fuwape, on Wednesday unfolded his agenda for the institution, saying his appointment is a call to greater responsibilities and service to humanity.
Fuwape, in his inaugural speech promised to provide exemplary leadership – the type that welcomes suggestions and sound ideas.
The new VC who said, his commitment to transparency, probity and accountability would be strong, noted that his administration would also embrace merit, freedom and participatory decision making.
Fuwape promised that at the end of his tenure, his administration would have added enormous values to the academic excellence and infrastructural developmental stride of the University.
His words, “Today is no doubt a very historic moment in my career and in the life of this University. I see my appointment as clarion call to service – a call to greater responsibility of service to humanity and my fatherland.
It is equally a call to take the lead in our collective struggle for a better and greater Federal University of Technology, Akure. On this note, I wish to salute the doggedness of my co-competitors for this position and for demonstrating the spirit of sportsmanship.
“It is therefore our joint responsibility to align together in order to realize my vision for FUTA and make it a reference point for academic productivity and research excellence.
“I declare that I belong to every union on this campus including the students’ union for the next five years without prejudice to my primary constituency as a member of Academic Staff Union of Universities, FUTA Branch.
FUTA as a family University must operate as one and we must not allow individual differences to create divisions among us.
“It is against this background that I have articulated my Vision to strive to make FUTA to be the number one port of call and choice for students and scholars.
“We must ensure that we tap into enormous opportunities that are inherent in “town and gown” relationship. To achieve this, the quality of our teaching and research must measure up to the best practices in the world and our physical landscape upgraded to maintain the lead in campus beauty.”
In his valedictory speech, the out gone Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adebisi Daramola, said he was not surprised with the emergence of Prof. Fuwape , because God has destined him to take over the mantle of leadership of the institution at this time.
