Mutiny In Nigeria Police As ACP Defies IGP
An Assistant commissioner of police, names withheld has openly challenged the directives of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.
It has been reliably gathered that an ACP in the presidential villa who was recently promoted from CSP has flagrantly disobeyed the IGP’s directives.
The ACP cannot by police regulations still maintain his current Office as Squadron Commander as his rank fell below what is expected for the office.
He was later transferred to Imo state but has refused to go giving reasons that President Muhammadu Buhari was away in UK for medical treatment and has to be around for him to be released.
That was three months ago.
A source familiar with the story said the IGP waited till Mr President returned and sought clearance for the transfer.
‘Mr President was properly briefed on the matter which he approved and the ACP was transferred to Kano this time just before the Sallah break after Mr President resumed office.
‘To everyone’s utter shock and dismay the ACP insisted that the IGP had no power to transfer him as he was brought in by Mr President.
‘He also said the IGP has more pressing matters before Nigerians and he should concentrate on his battle with the senator Misau and clear his name from the allegations levelled against him before coming to interfere with the command structure of the police in the Villa,’ the source added.
The ACP, it was learnt also stated that the IGP has only few days or weeks in office before he would be booted out of office by Mr President.
Our findings also revealed that the ACP has been running around lobbying aides of Mr President to convince the IGP to let the matter go as the previous government of Goodluck Jonathan had an ACP as Squadron commander and nothing happened.
Further investigations revealed that the ACP is also at logger heads with the Vice President as he recently transferred all the southern policemen attached to the VP but was forced to return them.
Efforts to speak with Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Jimoh Moshood proved abortive as he did not pick his calls. He also did not reply a text message sent to him.
