Osun 2018: PDP Petitioned IG Over Murder Of Member, Intimidation
Ahead the September 22 governorship election in Osun state, the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris over alleged threat to peaceful conduct of the election.
The State Chairman of the party, Hon. Soji Adagunodo who made the copy of the petition available to newsmen in Osogbo alleged assassination attempt on the candidate of PDP, Senator Ademola Adeleke by people suspected to be hired thugs allegedly sponsored by APC.
He said attempts came open through coordinated attacks on the campaigns rallies of PDP in Osogbo, Ikirun and Ede.
Besides, the party brought the murder of one Mr. Nasiru Jimoh Ajasa, a PDP stalwart allegedly murdered by APC thugs to the notice of the IGP.
According to Adagunodo, late “Ajasa had attended a PDP rally on 16th, September 2018 and was accosted in his house Ofatedo area by APC thugs”
Adagunodo explained further that despite various complaints by the party to the police on these acts, the police have not deemed it fit to arrest any culprits nor provide extra security for Senator Adeleke.
He further alleged that plans have been uncovered of arrest, detain and harassment of prominent PDP leaders.
Adagunodo noted that 52 names of party officials, leaders, serving and former political office holders and vote canvassers across the state have been listed for arrest.
He said that the arrest was a way of destabilizing the party ahead of the election and giving a free passage to the APC in it desperate attempt to disrupt the peaceful conduct of election.
The PDP boss also raised alarm of influx of strangers into the state 72 hours to the election from Lagos.
“The strange faces are spotted in their large number in hotels, schools and private residences of APC leaders.
“This is already creating undue tension and anxiety in many towns and villages. There is every cause to worry that these persons who were not known to be indigenes or regular residents of Osun are being imported by the APC.
He further raised allegation that the APC plan to use fake soldiers, police and NYSC personnel and the illegal act was being coordinated by two firms in Lagos and Benin city.
But in a swift reaction, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Danjuma Attah said that the Corps is used to such allegations from politicians saying that the allegation is baseless and unfounded.
He explained that Corps members have credibility and integrity to protect stressing that the allegation is unfortunate.
