Monarch In Police Net Over N15. 5 Million Fraud In Ogun
The Ogun state Police command on Tuesday said they have arrested a monarch, Chief Muyideen Folorunso for allegedly defrauding a Property and Homes company in the state to the tune of N15. 5 million.
Folorunso, who is said to be the Baale of Ferowa village in the Ifo local government area of the state, allegedly sold a 23 acres of land to the Property Company which he later resold to another set of buyers few months later.
In a statement it issued in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi said the Baale’s arrest followed a petition forwarded to the police by the Property company over the matter.
Oyeyemi in the statement, explained that the management of company had approached Chief Folorunso for the purchase of the land which was negotiated and paid for to the tune of N15. 5 million after he had shown them the land.
“But surprisingly some months after the payment has been made, the said Baale started selling the same portion of land to another set of people. Before the company knew what was going on, the Baale has sold seventeen acres out of the 23 acres.
“On the strength of the petition, the commissioner of police Ahmed Iliyasu directed the officer in charge of Public Complaints Bureau to look into the case and bring the suspect to book”.
The PPRO further stated that the Baale was subsequently arrested and upon interrogation, he admitted to collecting the said amount of money from the company.
“The Baale stated further that it was when he needed some money for his coronation that he was tempted to sell parts of the already sold land”.
Oyeyemi however, said that the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu has ordered a thorough investigation into the case, stressing that the suspect will soon be arraigned “in court in accordance with the anti-land grabbing laws of Ogun state”.
