How To Get Prepaid Meters, Mojec And Ikeja Electric Organises Sensitatization For Customers

Mojec Meter Assets Management Company, a subsidiary of Mojec International Limited, West Africa’s leading meter manufacturer, in conjunction with Ikeja Electric, held a one-day sensitization and engagement eventto educate its customers within the Somolu Business Unit on the process of accessing prepaid meters manufactured and distributed by the company.

MojecInternational is one of the Meter Asset Providers (MAP) licensed by Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to provide and install meters to residents within their jurisdiction.The sensitization event,themed “MAP Sensitization”, held in Quad T, 171 Oworonshoki-Oshodi Expressway, Gbagada, Lagos,is part of the company’s drive to close the metering gap and put an end to estimated electricity billing in Nigeria.

Present at the event wereFolakeSoetan, COO, Ikeja Electric; Mrs. Mojisola Abdul, Board Chairman, Mojec International; Ms. Chantelle Abdul, MD/CEO,Mojec International and Mojec Meter Assets Management Company; Baale of BarigaAlhaji R.A Yunusa, representing the Oba of Somolu; representatives of partner banks and other key stakeholders.

In her opening remarks, the CEO Ikeja Electric, represented by FolakeSoetan, COO, Ikeja Electric, explained that this event was put togethernot just to sensitize the electricity consumers but to interact with them and get feedback on their customer experiences, as this will help improve the servicesbeing offered. She further stated that,“acquiring a meter comprisesof four (4) major steps which include a Know Your Customer (KYC) phase, where details of the customer is captured, a survey of the customer’s premises is obtained in a bid to ascertain the appropriate meter type needed, this will then be followed by payment for the meter by the customer and then a provision and installation of the meter by Mojec International, one of our Meter Asset Provider (MAP)”.

Also speaking at the occasion was Ms. Chantelle Abdul,MD/CEO Mojec International and Mojec Meter Assets Management Company, who explained,“the aim of this event is to ensure that you, the customer, has access to quality and credible meters. We are confident to say that we have meters available and upon purchase through the necessary channels, our technicians will be deployed to install them.We are also proud to say that our metersmeet all the necessary standards as they are thoroughly tested and approved by the relevant regulators. In addition, we provide insurance and maintenance of the meters over a period of time.”

Ms. Abdul further emphasized, “We are working to ensure that meters get installed at our customer’s premises within 8 days from date of order. As agreed byIkejaDisco andMojec, customers are not to offer bribes to Mojec or 3^rd party installers in a bid to hasten their order or installation as the cost of installation is already included in the price of the meter which they have already paid.She continued by saying,Mojec Meter Asset Management company is a subsidiary of MojecInternational and Mojec Global, tasked with the responsibility of producing financing plus installing meters for customers.

Representatives of the (b club) MAP partner banks working withMojecon the MAP projectwere also present. They explained that ordering plus payment of meters can be made through their bank branches and that they have partnered with MOJEC to make available soft loans for consumers who do not have enough fundsto procure the meter at once. These banking partners include Zenith, Keystone, WEMA, Polaris,Unity, Sterling andFirst Bank with others coming on board soon.

On their part, the people of Somolu business unit present at the event had a number of questions and concerns regarding their electricity bills as well as their ability to access these meters. These questions were duly addressed by bothMojec International and the Ikeja Electric team.  Customers were assured that a minimum of 10,000 meters are available to be deployed on a monthly basis and that as the customer number and demand increases, our meter supply will increase accordingly to accommodate them.
