Mechanic Bags Six Weeks Imprisonment For Theft
For stealing a motorcycle in Ile-Ife, an Osun State Magistrates’ Court in Ile-Ife Tuesday sentenced 29-year-old mechanic, Timothy Adeniji, to six-weeks imprisonment.
The Senior Magistrate, Risikat Olayemi, however, gave the convict an option of N5,000 fine.
Olayemi advised the convict to desist from committing crimes, saying the sentence would, however, serve as deterrent to others.
The convict, a mechanic, who resides at Otutu Street, Ile-Ife, was convicted on a one-count charge of theft.
The convict had earlier pleaded guilty to the charge and agreed that the court adjudicate over his matter.
According to the Prosecutor, Inspector Emmanuel Abdullahi, the accused committed the offence on Nov 3, 2017, around 5:20 a.m at No.14, Otutu, Street, Ile-Ife.
Abdullahi said that the convict stole one Jincheng Motorcycle, colour blue with Registration No: QD 721 FFE valued at N70,000, and property of one Victor Odugade.
He added that the offence contravened section 383 and  390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
Having been convinced of the culpability of the defendant, Magistrate Risikat Olayemi convicted and sentenced Timothy Adeniji to 5 months imprisonment.
