Man With 2 Wives Jailed For Raping Step Daughter
An Ado Ekiti High Court has sentenced a 57-year-old man, David Oluwatoba, to 14-years imprisonment for raping his four year-old stepdaughter (names withheld).
The convict, who is married to two wives raped the victim who is the daughter of his second wife on 12th August, 2013 at Odo Usi Street, Awo Road, Igede-Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti state.
Exhibits tendered to convict Oluwatoba, who was first arraigned in court on 27th November, 2015 include photographs, medical report on the sexual assault, statement of the accused at the police station,
among others.
The convict on the day of the incident, had a canal knowledge of the girl said to be a product of her mother’s previous marriage after bathing her.
The mother had discovered blood stains on the victim’s cloth and the bleeding from her private part which prompted her (the mother) to raise alarm and reported the matter Igede-Ekiti Police Divisional Headquarters, leading to the arrest of the convict.
When the case came up for hearing, Justice Toyin Abodunde held that the prosecution has proved the case beyond every reasonable doubt on the weight of evidence before the court.
The judge held that the prison term started counting from the day of conviction.
A source said: “We are not happy that he was jailed but this will serve as a lesson and deterrent to other elderly people raping minors in the society. It is difficult to explain why a man at his age married to two women would condescend to having carnal knowledge of little girl.”
