Man Rapes 15-Year Old, Bags Life Imprisonment
For abducting and raping a 15-year- old girl, an Ado-Ekiti High Court has sentenced a council worker, Ojo Ayodele, to life imprisonment.
Ayodele was said to have taken the victim to a secret location in Ijero Ekiti, headquarters of Ijero local government area of Ekiti state where the incident occurred and subjected her to continuous sexual assault for 21 days.
Justice Oluwatoyin Abodunde in her judgment found Ayodele guilty as charged and sentenced the accused to life jail for abducting and raping the under aged girl. The terms are to run concurrently.
The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Gbemiga Adaramola, prosecuted the case on behalf of the state while the convict was represented by his counsel, Tosin Osundahunsi.
Ayodele was first arraigned on 2nd February, 2016 on a two-count charge of rape and abduction.
The prosecution called seven witnesses during the trial and tendered exhibits which include statements of the victim and the convict, medical report which established the rape, among others but no witness was called by the convict apart from himself in the course of the trial.
The victim was taken to the Ijero Local Government Immigration Office to report the case by a good Samaritan who saw blood stains on the cloths of the girl.
But Ayodele was caught at the council secretariat having been identified by the victim as her abductor who subjected her to serial rape and was promptly arrested by the Immigration officers who took the convict to Ijero Police Station where the case was reported.
The victim was living with her stepmother after her father and mother divorced with the latter relocating to Port Harcourt.
The alleged maltreatment of the victim by her step mother forced her out of the house and was said to have met the convict who promised to take care of her.
