Man Docked For Assaulting Traffic Warden In Osun

For allegedly beating a Traffic Warden to stupor while on official duty, 31-year-old Taiwo Orofin, was on Thursday arraigned before an Osun Magistrates’ court sitting in Ile-Ife.

However, Orofin pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge bordering on assault preferred against him after he had agreed to be tried by the court.

But the prosecutor, Sunday Osanyintuyi, an Inspector of Police informed the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 28, at 9:45 a.m. at Phase 11, Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife.

He told the court that the defendant slapped the complainant, Insp. Ajiwe Samuel, while performing his lawful duty.

He added that the defendant also inflicted injury on the upper lip of the complainant.

According to him, the offence contravened Sections 355 and 356 of the Criminal Law of Osun, 2002.

The defence counsel, Mr Olalekan Babatunde, urged the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms, promising that Orofin would not jump bail.

Magistrate Muhibah Olatunji granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until June 13. 2019.
