Man, 50, Docked over Alleged N630,000 Fraud

An Osun Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife on Monday, docked one Gbenga Amusan, 50, over alleged N630,000 fraud.

However, the accused person who agreed to be tried in the court pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of fraud and stealing preferred against him.

The Prosecutor, Insp Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the accused committed the offence sometimes in 2013, around noon, at Ondo Road, Ile-Ife.

He said that the accused intended to defraud one Olajide Oluwatoyin by receiving the sum of N630,000 from her under false pretence to supply her planks worth the amount which he eventually failed as promised.

According to him, the offence contravened sections 383, 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Nicholas Babatunde, applied for the bail of the accused in liberal term, adding that his client would not jump bail, but produce reliable sureties.

Magistrate Muhibah Olatunji, granted the bail of the accused in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.

Among the bail condition ordered by Olatunji was the production of three years tax clearance by the surety as she adjourned the case until Jan 24, for hearing.
