Lagos Pleads With Employers To Accept Corps Members
Lagos state Government has called on all employers of labour in the State to accept members of the National Youth Service Corps posted to their organisations so as to enable them contribute their quota to the overall development of the nation.
This appeal was made by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode at the closing ceremony of Two thousand five hundred and seventy seven, Batch A, Stream 1 NYSC who concluded their orientation Course in Lagos.
The Governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter Governmental Relations, Mr Oluseye Oladejo, congratulated the Corps members on the successful completion of the Orientation Course also enjoined the Corps members to apply the virtues of diligence, tolerance, perseverance and leadership skill acquired during the orientation course to their daily activities.
According to Oladejo who also doubles as the Chairman Governing Board of the National Youth Service Corps in the State, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode expected that “Corps members would channel their energies towards activities that would enhance economic growth and national development”.
The Governor noted that, “Nigeria as a nation can only be transformed when you channel your energies towards activities that will enhance economic growth and national development. You are therefore expected to use your training to impact on the community and develop your individual potentials,
Governor Ambode thereby enjoined people in various Communities to extend the traditional warm hospitality that the State is noted for to the Corps members. He also charged corps members to come up with creative ideas that will be a lasting legacy their host communities while promising that excellence will be rewarded by the State.
In his address, the Lagos State Coordinator NYSC Prince Mohamed Momoh who attested to the high level of discipline exhibited by Corps members during the Orientation training said their experience at the Orientation camp would no doubt bring out the best in the corps members as they discharge their duties during the national service and beyond and beyond.
Prince Momoh described the present corps members as job creators and not job seekers said the skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development programme was a major component of the orientation course. He therefore encourage them to take advantage of the various platforms available for start-up capital put in place by the scheme in partnership with business credit granting institutions such as the State Employment Trust Fund, Bank of Industry and the Central Bank of Nigeria who grant business credit at zero or low interest rate to corps members
