Lagos Lawmaker To Goje : Apologise Publicly To Lagosians Over Your Comment
A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Olusegun Olulade has demanded a public apology from Danjuma Goje, the senator representing Gombe Central, for allegedly labeling Lagos Assembly as a rubber-stamp legislature.
Olulade, representing Epe Constituency II, while fielding questions from journalists in Lagos on Friday, stated that if truly such a “reckless statement” was made by Goje, then he must as a matter of urgency, tender an unreserved public apology to Lagosians.
Goje, who recently attacked the Minister for Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, was quoted as saying “This national assembly is not Lagos State House of Assembly. This is an assembly composed of very patriotic Nigerians, very experienced Nigerians. Many have done his job, many were governors before him.”
While condemning this statement, Olulade wondered what the Senator, who once served as the Governor of Gombe State meant by saying the National Assembly is not Lagos State House of Assembly.
According to him, “Senator Goje should know that there are only two Assemblies in Nigeria and they are Lagos State House of Assembly and others, even the National Assembly falls under the category of ‘others’. If there is any parliament that has been most proactive in this country, everybody knows that it is the Lagos State House of Assembly.
“So for Goje to indirectly refer to Lagos Assembly as a rubber-stamp legislature, it is very laughable and unfortunate. Such a statement is very reckless and we are demanding that he tenders an unreserved and public apology. Lagos House of Assembly is the only House that is above common standard of excellence.
“From 1999 under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Olorunnimbe Mamora till date under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, our own House of Assembly has never been a rubber-stamp legislature and that is why Lagos State has continued to excel and it is obvious for all to see.
“So if Goje and his colleagues in the Senate have any problem with Fashola, they should look for a way to sort it out and not insult the House where the people’s representatives are.
“I am using this medium to call on Goje to tender an unreserved apology to the people of Lagos State for making that statement. Let me also state that it is high time some of the likes of Goje in the Senate started behaving like distinguished and honourable people because Nigerians are already fed up with the way they are running the Senate,” Olulade added.
