Lagos Deputy Governor Calls For Compassion, Peaceful Co-existence In Nigeria
Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule Friday called on Nigerians to uphold the significance of the Eid- El – Kabir celebration by showing compassion and ensure peaceful co-existence in the country.
The deputy governor who gave the advice during the Eid El Kabir prayer held at the Dodan Barracks Praying Ground urged Nigerians to celebrate the sallah peacefully and show mercy to others.
She urged Muslims to always remember the lesson embedded in the celebration which according to her is the celebration of God’s mercy on mankind as demonstrated with the replacement of a ram for a son by Allah.
Adebule said, “This shows great love of the Almighty Allah for mankind, We ought to emulate this act and show kindness and love to our brothers and neighbours by ensuring peaceful co-existence and shunning all forms of divisive tendencies that threatens our national unity.
”The message for us as Muslims is that we submit ourselves to the will of the Almighty God. We should not just be carried away by today’s celebration but reflect on the significance of today, which is total submission to God.
”As we also wine and dine, let us care and share with others, especially the underprivileged, irrespective of tribe or religion.
”This is why Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode led-administration is organising Eid celebration in the 20 Local Government Areas of the state to make the celebration an all inclusive one, ” Adebule said
She urged Lagosians to continue to support and pray for the present administration in the state as it strives on daily basis to bring new reforms that impact on the lives of the common man.
In his sermon during the prayer, the Chief Imam of Lagos, Sheikh Garuba Akinola-Ibrahim, urged Nigerians to shun all forms of vices that threaten the peace and unity of the country.
”Let us learn to forgive and co-exist peacefully so that we do not incur the wrath of the Almighty Allah. Let us shun acts of terrorism, kidnapping, armed robbery and other crimes that are causes serious challenges in the country.
”I also appeal to our political leaders to shun acts of corruption, impunity and injustice. Utilise the nation’s wealth to develop the country and make the people happy, ” he said.
The Chief Imam called for continued prayers for President Muhammad Buhari and other government officials
