Kwara CP Orders Strict Traffic Enforcement
The Kwara State Police Command has commenced a fresh operation to enforce traffic laws and curb violations by motorists across the state.
The operation, tagged ‘Operation Velvet,’ commenced on Tuesday, according to a statement made available by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi.
The command said the initiative was launched under the supervision of the state Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
The statement noted that the operation was a continuous enforcement exercise aimed at ensuring strict compliance with traffic regulations, promoting responsible driving and improving road safety.
“The operation is a continuous enforcement initiative aimed at ensuring strict adherence to traffic laws, promoting responsible driving, enhancing road safety, and protecting the lives and property of all road users across the state,” the statement said.
According to the statement, the command noted that the exercise would focus on ensuring that motorists complied with traffic regulations and that vehicles on the roads had valid and legally required documents.
It listed proper vehicle registration and other relevant documents among the requirements motorists must possess before using the roads.
The police consequently advised motorists to ensure that their vehicles were properly registered and that all necessary documents were valid before taking to the roads, as it warned that motorists found violating traffic laws or operating vehicles without the required legal documentation would face appropriate sanctions.
“Any motorist found violating traffic laws or operating a vehicle without the required legal documentation will face appropriate sanctions in accordance with extant laws and due process,” the command said.
The police urged motorists and other road users to cooperate with personnel deployed for the enforcement exercise and obey traffic regulations.
The CP appealed to motorists to drive responsibly, assuring residents that the command remained committed to safer roads and the protection of lives and property.
He further assured members of the public that the command would continue to maintain peace and public order across the state as the enforcement operation continues.
