Kunle Afod Laments Absence Of Ambulance After Ogun Road Crash
Nollywood actor Kunle Afod has raised the alarm over the alleged absence of emergency responders at the scene of an accident involving several people at Shapade, along the Ibadan–Shagamu Expressway in Ogun State.
Afod, in a video shared on his Instagram page on Friday, appealed to the Ogun State Government, the Federal Road Safety Corps and other emergency agencies to come urgently to the victims’ aid, saying no ambulance had arrived about 20 minutes after he encountered the accident.
“It’s a terrible accident we came across on the way along the Ibadan–Shagamu Expressway right now, and it’s so sad that for about 20 minutes that we’ve been here there has been no ambulance, no emergency services to come and help them,” he said.
The actor, who showed the accident scene in the video, said several people were lying helplessly while attempts to contact emergency responders had not yielded assistance.
“Nobody, we’ve been trying to call emergency workers to come and help them. See people lying down helplessly. You can see them, you can see the car behind me, the bus behind me now,” he said.
Afod expressed concern over what he described as the lack of emergency assistance in the state, saying, “Nobody, nobody in Ogun State to come and rescue them.”
He added that repeated attempts to make emergency calls had not produced a response, while other motorists were allegedly not stopping to assist the victims.
“Until now we’ve been trying to call, we’ve been trying to make emergency calls. Nobody, nobody is trying to help them at all,” he said.
Questioning the situation at the scene, Afod said, “Look at them, look at the bus, look at people lying down. Nobody is even stopping to carry them, nobody at all. What is happening in this state right now? What is happening?”
He appealed to members of the public to help the victims, reiterating that emergency assistance was urgently needed.
“We are stuck, this is right now and this accident is terrible, it is terrible. Ogun State, no ambulance to come and rescue people. People should please come to their aid right now, right now,” he said.
In the accompanying Instagram caption, Afod described the situation as an emergency and called on rescue teams to assist the accident victims at Shapade.
“We urgently need the RESCUE TEAM to come to the aid of accident victims at Shapade, along the Ibadan–Shagamu Expressway, Ogun State,” he wrote.
He also called on the Ogun State Government, the FRSC, emergency response teams and other relevant authorities to come to the victims’ rescue without delay.
“Lives may be at risk. Every second counts!” the actor wrote, urging members of the public to share the appeal until the relevant authorities responded.
Afod further issued a viewer-discretion warning, noting that some images or videos from the accident scene might be disturbing and advising children and sensitive viewers to watch with caution.
The cause of the accident, the number of people involved and their conditions were not immediately known. There was no official statement from the relevant emergency agencies at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) has confirmed a serious single-vehicle road traffic accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The agency disclosed this in an official alert issued on Friday, through its Saapade Unit Command and shared with our correspondent via WhatsApp.
The alert was signed by Odutola Babatunde.
According to the alert, “Traffic flow on the expressway has not been affected by the incident, while TRACE operatives are monitoring the situation.”
The agency said, “Further details about the accident will be made available as soon as they emerge.”
