Key Praises Nigerian University For Discovering Enlarged Prostate, Diabetes Cure
Mrs Patience Key, President/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Chamber of Commerce, has praised Ambrose Alli University (AAU) Ekpoma, for discovering a cure for enlarged prostate and diabetes.
The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) had, on Aug. 24, approved the institutions’ right of production and usage of Glucozil, a herbal drug for the treatment of diabetes mellitus.
Key, an alumna of AAU, told the News of Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in New York that the possibilities would be endless if Nigerian institutions are able to get the right support, adequate resources and the proper motivation.
Speaking against the background of the pproval of Glucozil by NAFDAC, Key said there was no better evidence to this than the exciting news of ground breaking innovations and discoveries by AAU.
“It is amazing that in spite of the continuous strikes, low wages, lack of infrastructure and support for research, the school has found a way to use the meagre resources at their disposal to the benefit of Edo indigenes in particular, Nigerians at large, and the entire world.
“It is worthy of note that this is not the first time the University is making headlines for good.
“One of the accomplishments for which they were lauded most recently was the success of a research programmed to eliminate voting malpractices using digital means.
“This in itself is a valuable addition. Beyond the innovation itself, the system will help deepen democratic process and engender good conduct in electioneering,’’ she said.
She said it was “exciting for me, first as a citizen of Nigeria, a proud indigene of Edo State and most importantly a fulfilled Alumni with an undying faith in the many other possibilities that AAU holds.
“These innovations are results of hard work, dedication and commitment to a better Edo State and Nigeria.
“I strongly opine that given the adequate support and needed leadership, our research institutions will not only compete with their counterparts across the world, they will outdo them in innovativeness.
“I am committed to providing the kind of leadership that will reinvigorate our institutions of research and learning and cause them to achieve their full potentials as they stand out among the global committee of research institutions.
“Indeed, AAU has continued to surpass expectations as a state owned institution that continues to provide a heartbeat for Nigeria in innovation, science and inventio,’’ she said.
In addition, Key urged support for illustrious sons and daughters of Edo state to support the growing number of talents spread across the globe so that they can continue to blaze the trail for the benefit of all humanity.
“I take this time to congratulate the management of the university for providing good leadership and the students for not relenting to bring to bear their ingenuity on the most daunting problems even in the face of obvious challenges.
“The success of the invention of this certified prostrate drug will go a long way toward improving the general well-being of our people and by extension all of humanity.
“I admonish them to continue to do their best under the circumstances as their doggedness has not gone unnoticed,” she said.
According to her, giving education the needed attention will curb unnecessary migration of Nigerians abroad.
“I use this opportunity to challenge other people of Edo to look beyond the inadequacies of the past and continue to give their best for the development of the state,’’ she said.
Dr Jonathan Emeka Emordi, Head, Department of Pharmacology, and Sub-Dean, Basic Clinical Sciences, College of Medicine, AAU, who produced the drug, said “GLUCOZIL is a natural product that is prepared for the treatment of Diabetes Mellitus.
“If the product is used for a very long period, it will not only manage diabetes but cure it completely,” Emordi said.
According to Emordi, GLUCOZIL has bonus clinical indications for the treatment of BPH, commonly known as enlarged prostate.
