Kebbi Recovers N47 Million from 305 Dormant Accounts

The implementation of Treasury Single Account (TSA) in Kebbi State has led to the discovery of 350 dormant accounts out of which 305 of the accounts hold the sum of N47,774,937.42.

This was stated yesterday by the Kebbi State Permanent Secretary Ministry of Finance, Shuaibu D.Abdullahi during a three day Sensitization Workshop on Treasury Single Account ( TSA )  for MDAs , Directors of Finance , Budget Officers, Revenue Officers and Auditors organized by Kebbi State Ministry of Finance .

He stated in his paper presentation that the discovery was made following the request by Ministry of finance which requested Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) in the State to confirm balances of all accounts of MDAs on 16 the of March , 2016 and analysis carried out on such.

He further said that results from the analysis carried out indicated that there were 798 accounts while 448 active accounts have a total of N32 ,016,,995,678.00 and additional 160 accounts were later added from the search by the Nigerian Interbank Settlement System ( NIBSS) which brought the total to 1.010 accounts .

According to him in compliance with the TSA guidelines as issued by CBN , the accounts were pruned in order to enable Ministry of Finance have a clear view of their operations.

He explained further that the implementation of TSA by Kebbi State has become one of the condition for accessing the budget support facility offered by the Federal Government.

” implementation of TSA in the state has benefits including the reduction of corruption, blockage of leakages in internal revenue generation and remittance, entrenching accountability, enhancing transparency avoiding misappropriation of public funds and embezzlement”

In her remarks , the Kebbi State CBN Controller Hajiya Nana Asmau commended Kebbi state government for the implementation of TSA saying that the TSA saved a lot of government revenue and reduce corruption.
