Kamo State Debunks Fallout Rumours With Funke Akindele
Popular Nigerian skit maker and actor, Akinyoola Ayoola, popularly known as Kamo State, has dismissed rumours of a fallout between him and actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele, saying they remain close despite no longer being seen together as often.
Speaking during an interview with BBC Yoruba uploaded on Wednesday, the comedian explained that their reduced public appearances together are simply the result of their increasingly demanding schedules.
According to him, both he and the award-winning filmmaker have become busier with their respective careers, making it difficult to spend as much time together as they once did.
“We are still together, even closer. But now she is very busy with her December project, which didn’t give her a chance. I am also not the same as I used to be last year, and her prayer is that I should also always be called to work on projects,” he said.
Kamo also appealed to fans and social media users to stop spreading false narratives about their relationship.
“There is no fight; don’t let people paint what doesn’t exist,” he added.
Recalling how their relationship began, the skit maker said he had admired Akindele long before meeting her, describing the actress as one of his biggest inspirations.
“Before I met her, she had been like a role model to me; I love her very much. The first time I saw her in person was on the set of Everybody Loves Jenifa.
“I lost the key to the handcuff we used on set so she showed concern about the incident. Because of how she treated me on set, I started calling her mummy,” he said.
He revealed that Akindele’s confidence in his talent and dedication paved the way for several collaborations on her productions, including Ayetoro and Behind the Scene.
According to him, the actress was impressed by his work ethic, which strengthened their professional relationship over time.
Kamo disclosed that Akindele offered to fly his wife abroad to give birth after learning about her pregnancy.
The comedian had described the gesture as one of several acts of kindness he had received from the actress, whom he credited with playing a significant role in his career growth.
His latest comments come amid recurring social media speculation that he and Akindele had fallen out after they were no longer frequently seen together at movie sets and public events.
However, Kamo maintained that there is no misunderstanding between them, insisting that their relationship remains intact despite their demanding work schedules.
