Kaduna Govt  Seeks EFCC’s  Help To Enhance Public Financial Transparency

The Kaduna State Government has appealed to the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, to help the State in sensitizing and enlightening public office holders, particularly at the local government level, on the imperatives of financial probity and accountability.
The call was made by the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs through his permanent secretary, Musa Adamu, during a one-day sensitisation workshop on ‘Adherence to Financial Rules and Regulations by Public Officers in the Conduct of Public Affairs’.

The workshop designed for top officials of the 23 local government councils of Kaduna State, had in attendance, chairmen, directors of finance and treasurers.

Speaking on behalf of the Acting Chairman, Head of Kaduna Zonal Office, Mailafia Yakubu, stated that the request by the Kaduna State government was an indication that public office holders are keen to defend the oath of office they took to be accountable at all times.
He declared the Commission’s readiness to collaborate with the state in enlightening and sensitizing its officers on prudent management of public resources while urging them not to see their positions as an avenue for self-enrichment.

The participants were tutored on laws governing taxation administration and procurement process, with a view to enhancing compliance with extent regulations, especially in public procurement.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, the chairmen of Kagarko and Makarfi local government areas commended the initiative as an eye-opener,  and a wakeup call to political office holders to be guided by financial regulations in all their dealings.
