Jonah Jang: Security Officers Take Over Plateau Court
There is heavy presence of security personnel currently at the premises of the Plateau State High in Jos, the state capital.
The fierce looking armed security personnel mainly from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Security were said to have cordoned off all the four entrances leading to the court as early as 6am on Friday.
The security beef-up, it was learnt, may not be unconnected with a judgment involving a former governor of the state, Jonah Jang, over an alleged N6.3bn fraud which the court is expected to deliver today at 9am.
Reporters who arrived at the court premises around 8am, observed that those driving into the court premises as well as those walking to the area were stopped and questioned by security officers before they were allowed in, while others were refused entry.
One of the security personnel who spoke with our correspondent said, “Today is not an ordinary day for us. We are here on a special duty at the court and that is why you can see many of us around. That is what I can tell you for now.”
The state High Court presided over by Justice Christy Dabup had fixed Friday September 2 for judgement in a case involving a former governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
In the suit, which had dragged for over four years, the anti-graft agency accused Jang and a former cashier in the office of the Secretary to the State Government, Yusuf Pam, of misappropriating public funds amounting to over N6.3bn before they left office in 2015, an allegation which they denied.
As of the time of filing this report ,the trial judge had yet to arrive at the court to deliver her judgment in the matter.
However, supporters of the former governor, who are eager to hear the outcome of the judgment, were on the ground waiting in anticipation of a favourable outcome.
