It Is Our Turn In 2019, Ibadan Indigenes Cry Out
Indigenes of Ibadan have called for the governorship seat to be shifted from other towns like Ogbomoso, Oyo town and other parts of the state as the race for the Agodi Government House begins in Oyo State.
The indigenes, speaking through Elder Jide Ajao said that “Now, it is the turn of Oyo Central Senatorial District to present the next governor of Oyo State”.
While describing their group as apolitical, he said, “Senatorial districts like Oyo North and Oyo South should give room for the good people of Oyo Central District to present a candidate who is qualified for the office of the Governor of Oyo State”.
According to them, other districts should allow the emergence of governor from Oyo Central.
The people argued that, “Since the inception of democracy in 1999, Oyo South senatorial district has produced governor of the state three times.
“They include the late Alhaji Lamidi Adesina, Senator Rashidi Ladoja and the incumbent governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi.”
Also, as the race gathers momentum, Oke Ogun axis had been calling the attention of the people in the state to alleged marginalisation, noting that it has been cheated several times.
They maintained that Oyo North had produced Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala while Oyo Central is yet to produce one.
“It is time the Oyo Central senatorial ticket is zoned to Oluyole Federal Constituency because all other Federal constituencies in the other two senatorial districts have produced senators representing the district.
“Oyo Central comprises 11 local governments with two from Ogbomoso, four from Oyo town and five from Ibadan,” they added.
The people who underscored the importance of opposition parties in a genuine democratic system said, “let true democrats resuscitate a party that would offer virile patriotic opposition to any ruling party in Nigeria.
“Any government that hates opposition can never be a friend of the people. That is the standard practice all over the world where democracy is being practised.
