iPhone Theft: Police Fails To Produce Movie-Maker, Seun Egbegbe In Court
The trial of Yoruba Movie-maker, Seun Egbegbe over allegations that he stole nine iPhones from the popular computer village in Lagos was yesterday stalled due to the failure of the police to produce the accused person in court.
Egbegbe was arraigned before Magistrate Aje Afunwa by the Lagos State police command on a one-count charge of stealing in November last year and granted bail in the sum of N1 million and two sureties in like sum.
Magistrate Afunwa, who at the last sitting of the court fixed Wednesday for the commencement of trial, was forced to adjourn the matter till April 12 because of the development.
No reason was given by the police for Egbegbe’s absence in court.
Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmos, had initially confirmed that the film producer was still in detention since he was arrested last week for an alleged the forex scam at Gbagada General Hospital.
Badmos has also promised that the police would produce the accused person in court yesterday to face the pending case.
Trouble started for Egbegbe on November 21, when he went to Computer Village market in Ikeja and requested to buy the phones.
It was gathered that while the sales girl was trying to calculate the items Seun requested for, he allegedly ran out of the shop with the phones and tried to board a waiting vehicle.
The salesgirl allegedly raised the alarm which attracted other traders in the market. Egbegbe was caught and beaten to a pulp before the police intervened and rescued him.
