Former Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, has urged the Federal Government to intensify dialogue with stakeholders in the Niger Delta to achieve lasting peace in the region.
Uduaghan made the appeal on Tuesday in an acceptance speech in appreciation of the Bridge Builders Award given to him by the National Orientation Agency in conjunction with Love To The World Initiative, a non-governmental organisation.
The award was presented to Uduaghan on behalf of the organisers by Dr. Pauline Tallen, former Deputy Governor of Plateau State.
Receiving the award, Uduaghan, who was represented by Chief Paulinus Akpeki, former Chief of Staff and Commissioner in the immediate past administration of Delta State, acknowledged that the Federal Government has done a lot in seeking to achieve peace in the region.
But he urged the Federal Government to involve all stakeholders in the ensuing dialogue with the region to guarantee lasting peace, while calling on the people to embrace the olive branch extended to them by President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said: “I know the government is doing a lot to achieve peace in the Niger Delta and entire nation. More efforts must be geared to achieve the objective because there is no alternative to peace which is the foundation of development. All stakeholders must be engaged and the people must also embrace the olive branch of the President.”
The Bridge Builders Award was given to Uduaghan in recognition of his love and care for minorities and vulnerable people during his tenure as governor of Delta State.
