3 Die, 14 Critically Injured In Lagos – Ibadan Expressway Crash

At least, three persons have been confirmed dead, while 14 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a head-on collision which occurred in the early hours of Monday at the Ogere Remo axis of the Lagos – Ibadan expressway.

The accident, which occurred at the traffic diversion point in Saapade around 7: 15 a.m on Monday, involved a Mazda passengers bus with registration number: (LAGOS) AKD 53 XN and another Ford luggage bus marked: (OSUN) RGB 490 XA.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the state Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the road crash yesterday in Abeokuta, the state capital.

He attributed the cause of the accident to recklessness and over-speeding at the traffic diversion point, which made the two vehicles to collide head-on.

“An eyewitness account further posited that the driver of the Ford bus coming from Lagos to Ikire was among the dead victims, while the other 2 are among the passengers in the Mazda passengers’ bus”.

The 14 injured victims were rescued to three hospitals in Ogere Remo, State hospitals in Isara as well as the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) in Sagam.

Akinbiyi however, explained that corpses of the three presumed dead were also evacuated and deposited at the morgue of a private hospital: FOS Mortuary in Ipara Remo.
