Announcing the result of the election at the senatorial collation office in Iwo, Lawal said 171,575 electorates were accredited out of 431,674 registered voters.
Otunba Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke will replace his brother, late Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke of APC who died recently in the red chamber
The Senator elect also a member of the APC defected to the opposition PDP following the clearance of his rival, Senator Mudasiru Hussein who had earlier been disqualified over his failure to resign his appointment as commissioner in the cabinet of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola prior to the poll.
Earlier in the day, the two major contestants had declared their satisfaction with the conduct of the election.
The announcement of Adeleke drew wild jubilation both at the collation centre and across the senatorial district.
