Illegal Production Warrant: Judge Threatens To Sack Registrars

Justice Sybil Nwaka of the Lagos State High Court of Lagos State in Igbosere on Tuesday, threatened to fire two of her registrars for allegedly issuing a Production Warrant not authorised by her.

Justice Nwaka, who was visibly angry with the registrars, simply identified as Tayo and Oluwola, also questioned how the duo could bring a defendant or an accused person on their own before her without an order of the court.

The judge stated, “It is only the Judge that has the right to issue a production warrant of a defendant and thus, is not even possible in the case because the substantive matter is not before this court.

“The two of you are up to something; my hands are clean. Everyday is for the thief but one day is for the owner.

“I don’t even know the charge against him, it’s only the bail application brought before me. You signed a production warrant on your own without my knowledge. I am going to send the two of you away from this court,” she stressed.

A defendant, Tunde Adewale, had appeared before Justice Nwaka for the hearing of his bail application which was eventually thrown out by the court.

While insisting that she never ordered the production of the defendant, Justice Nwaka noted that the substantive matter was not before her and that she does not know the charge preferred against the defendant.

Justice Nwaka then held, “The motion for bail is hereby struck out. Take him back to the medium prison, I never ordered for his production.”
