I Will Protect Ondo People Against Herdsmen Attacks- Akeredolu
The Ondo State governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has assured residents of the state that his administration would protect its citizens, especially farmers, from herdsmen attacks currently causing ripples in some parts of the country, as well as any form of attacks.
He said that his administration would not tolerate any act of brigandage, saying security forces have been mobilized to stem the activities of herdsmen terrorising farmers and people in the state.
Speaking at the flag off ceremony of the National Egg Production (NEGPRO) scheme held at Aaye community in Ifedore Local Government Area of the state, Akeredolu disclosed that his administration will defend the rights of the people to engage in farming without any form of hindrances.
He said, “We will sanction with impassioned severity, any act which seeks to tilt the balance of harmonious coexistence in the state towards anarchy.
“Our state has had her share of the herdsmen crisis but not on the horrendous scale whose odious effect continues to reverberate throughout the country. Our administration is taking proactive steps to ensure that this obnoxious phenomenon is nipped in the bud.
“We will not tolerate any act of brigandage. We will defend the right of our people to engage in farming without any hindrance of any sort. We will sanction with impassioned severity, any act which seeks to tilt the balance of harmonious coexistence in the state towards anarchy.
“The full weight of law will be brought to bear on criminal elements.”
Akeredolu however noted that any pastoralist interested in investing in the state with legitimate intention would not be disallowed.
His words, “While we encourage all those with legitimate intentions to visit our space, we intend to clear the doubt of anyone who may wish to perpetrate crime under nebulous guises.
“We therefore enjoin our people to go about their normal businesses and report promptly, any suspicious movement of undesirable elements in their communities”.
