I Will Probe Elechi’s Eight-year Tenure- Umahi
Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has disclosed plan to probe the tenure of his predecessor, Martin Elechi.
Umahi, who spoke in Abakaliki, the state capital, said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) would be intimated to commence the probe.
Accusing the former governor of financial recklessness, he threatened to publish the findings of the commission in the national newspapers. Umahi was the deputy to Elechi for four years, before they parted ways in the build up to the 2015 general elections, after a disagreement over a successor.
The former governor, who had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), allegedly petitioned the EFCC to probe Umahi’s activities. Elechi had asked the commission to probe the governor’s activities, especially the $150million loan being sought by the government for the construction of over 198km roads in eight of the 13 local council areas of the state.
Umahi said he had run out of his patience with the ex-governor, adding: “I have decided to probe Elechi’s eight years administration and I will publish the findings on the pages of newspapers. I have had enough of his showmanship, even though he has committed unpardonable financial fraud in the state.”
He said he would also expect the EFCC to probe every bit of the petition that Elechi had written against him.Elechi did not pay pension and severance allowances while in government, but this government is paying him his pensions, which he doesn’t deserve to receive,’ he said.
