I Remain An Oba, Olukere Replies Ekiti Monarchs

The Olukere of Ikere-Ekiti, Oba Ganiyu Obasoyin, Sunday, dismissed the claim credited to the Ekiti State Council of Obas, that he should not be addressed as an Oba, insisting that he remains a traditional ruler in Ekiti State.

Obasoyin said the Council acted prejudicial and unnecessary hasty by issuing a statement that he should not be addressed or recognised as a traditional ruler when a panel set up by the body on his status was yet to release its report.

Speaking with newsmen at his palace on Sunday, Olukere said the Council acted beyond their powers by issuing such statement, saying was made an Oba by his community and derives his sovereignty from them and not from the Council of Obas.

The Ekiti Council of Traditional Rulers, through its chairman, the Oloye of Oye-Ekiti, Oba Oluwole Ademolaju issued a statement last Thursday insisting that the Olukere should not be addressed as a monarch since he was yet to be recognized as such by the state government.
