OGSG To Upgrade State Hospitals To Specialist Status
The Ogun State Government is set to upgrade five State Hospitals in Abeokuta, Ishara, Ijebu-Ode, Ota and Ilaro, to Specialist Hospitals, in specific areas of specialization, in order to revamp the health sector and bring affordable health care service to the doorsteps of residentsfacilities, saying the upgrading would incorporate services in departments, such as Obstetrics and Gynaecology, General Surgery, Paediatrics, Physiotherapy, as well as Family Clinic, among others.
Dr. Aigoro, according to his Press Officer, Miss. Temitope Adeleye, explained that the change appellation of each hospital would reflect the level of practice and scope of health care services expected to be delivered, thereby serving as referral centres for the General Hospitals.
He disclosed that the present administration would explore more windows to get funds to propel the government’s policy on health through partnership with corporate bodies and development agencies, urging health workers to deliver professionally and efficiently, to assist Government realise its objective in health care delivery to the masses.
The Director, Planning, Research and Statistics of the Board, Dr. Wellington Ogunsanya, said the monitoring was to enhance the quality of health care delivery, as well as ensure overall growth and development of the sector.
Responding, the Chief Medical Director, State Hospital, Abeokuta, Dr. Kayode Oladehinde, appreciated the present administration for the full accreditation in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from West Africa College of Surgeons.
While commending the Board for the confidence reposed in them to serve, Oladeinde promised staff’s commitment to discharging their duties with high sense of responsibility, noting that some challenges, ranging from inadequate manpower, infrastructure and equipment needed to be addressed for optimum performance.
