2 Injured, As Hoodlums Shot At ADC Guber Candidate’s Convoy In Ogun

The governorship candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ogun state, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka on Wednesday narrowly escaped death when gunmen attacked his campaign convoy at Ibese axis of Yewa South Local Government Area of the state.

Two people from among the politician’s convoy however, sustained varying gunshot wound in the aborted attack on Isiaka’s convoy.

It was gathered that the gunmen, suspected to be political thugs waylaid Isiaka and barricaded the Ibese Junction with logs of woods, disused and broken bottles all in an attempt to prevent Isiaka’s convoy from gaining access and proceeded to Ibese town where the guber candidate was billed to address his supporters.

Numbering about 30, the hoodlums allegedly chanted war songs and shouting at the tip of their voices, hauling abuses on Isiaka and calling him many unprintable words to discredit his candidature ahead of the year 2019 governorship contest.

Head of the Isiaka’s Media team, Bolaji Adeniji who spoke with journalists on phone about the attack, said the hoodlums were chanting: “GNI, you’re talking too much”, “do you think you’re governor yet?”

Adeniji explained that the incident happened around 2pm and that it took the intervention of the security officers attached to the ADC governorship candidate to disperse the hoodlums before the convoy could gain access and proceeded on their journey.

“We had moved from Abeokuta en route Ibese when we were waylaid at Ibese junction of Ilaro axis. But when GNI’s security challenged them and they ran into the bushes from where they shot sporadically at the convoy with bullets hitting two people”, Adeniji said.

Adeniji also gave name of one of the victims of the gun shot as one Mrs. Irawo, while the identity of the second victim, a male was yet to be ascertained as at the time of filling this report.

He however, hinted that one of the victims could have his right arm amputated due to the degree of the gun shot.

When contacted, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi said the incident was yet to be reported to the police at Ilaro divisional headquarters.

He said if the matter is eventually reported, police would commence investigation towards bringing the culprit to book.

Oyeyemi however, implored all the political parties in the state to always inform the police about their movement to enable them provide the necessary security coverage for them.

PPRO said the state’s Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu is keenly interested in such matters and would not handle such incident with levity.

“That was why the DIG in charge of South West,  Oshodi Agboola came to lecture us about and we are ready to curtail such incident with all our strength”.
