Group Masterminds Raises Alarm Over Spate Of Violence In Osun
Amalgamation of Several Civil Society Groups under the aegis of ‘The Osun Masterminds’ has raised the alarm over the spate of violence and insecurity in Osun State.
Addressing newsmen in Osogbo on Monday in Osogbo, the state capital, the executive director of the coalition, Dr, Wasiu Oyedokun-Alli wondered how a state that was adjudged as one of the most peaceful in the country before the governorship election suddenly turned battle ground for cultists and thugs.
He demanded that the police and other security agencies in the state collaborate to immediately arrest and bring to justice all known and unknown members of the violent groups responsible for the killings in the state particularly from the period of the last governorship election in the state and now.
While they commended the disbandment of the tactical squad of the Osun state command of the Nigeria Police, The Osun Masterminds demanded that all members of the squad are debriefed and those found culpable of having been involved in extra-judicial killings and right violations be immediately sanctioned.
Dr, Wasiu Oyedokunware noted that having been aware of the deployment of security operatives to the Governor-Elect of the state by the police hierarchy in accordance with rules of engagement, he demanded that the deployed officers be thoroughly examined to ensure that none of them has a record of human rights abuse or previously indicted by any panel or body known to the law.
He cautioned political gladiators to refrain from the use of inflammatory statements capable of stocking the embers of disunity that could result in loss of atmosphere of peace and tranquillity in the state.
Dr, Wasiu Oyedokunware urged Osun citizens to cooperate with the security agencies by exposing undesirable elements within their communities while reposing confidence in the security agencies not to compromise the security of lives and properties.
