Gombe Revenue Service Nabs Five Over Alleged Forgery
Gombe State Internal Revenue Service has uncovered a five-man syndicate issuing fake demand notice within the service.
‘This is not the first time the service is uncovering such malpractices. In 2019, about 10,000 electronic payment receipts were said to be stolen by some staff of the Revenue Service.’
He said this was after unmasking the taxpayers for the sake of singling out the perpetrators of the crime within the service, adding that a lot is being done to bring sanity and rid of bad eggs.
According to Tata, the five-man syndicate who pleaded guilty were nabbed following attempts at forging the signature of the executive director in charge of tax operations.
He said this after inviting the taxpayers who were masked for the purpose of identifying the officers responsible for the issuance of fake demand notice.
While advising taxpayers not to pay cash to any revenue or tax officer that would not give them e-reciept bearing the taxpayer’s name and telephone number, he assured that the service under his leadership is doing it best to sanitise the system.
“The five – man syndicate who forged the signature of the Executive Director in charge of Tax Operations pleaded guilty for various level of involvement and were issued with administrative query pending the time the Service will forward their responses to disciplinary committee for determination,” he added.
