Gastroenteritis Kills 4 Students In Kebbi
An outbreak of gastroenteritis has been reported at Government Secondary School , Fana , Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State , on the border with Niger Republic .
A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor , Abubakar Muazu Dakingari and made available to newsmen yesterday , reports that four students have been confirmed dead from the disease .
Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu who paid sympathy visit to the school and the families of the deceased, prayed to Allah to guard against recurrence .
The Governor Commended the combine effort of WHO, Disease Control Unit and Officials of the State Ministry of Health for doing their best to bring the outbreak under control .
He directed the immediate closure of two locally dug wells in the school and provision of hand pump Boreholes in he school.
He consoled the family of Iliyasu Kakale on the death of Usman Iliyasu, Naziru Bala Kamba and late Abdulrahim Fingilla as well as condole with the family of Surajo Adamu in Karaye .
The Governor also prayed for the quick recovery of five other students on admission at Kamba General Hospital now receiving treatment .
Earlier ,Dr. Samuel Badu , of WHO Centre for Disease Control , Atlanta Georgia USA, who led the team of Doctors told the Governor that, they discovered symptoms of severe headache stomach pains from the victims , arising from suspected consumption of contaminated food items ,water or fruit.
The school Principal Malam Bello Kwari Dakingari said he has put in place all the necessary measures to curtail further outbreak of disease and commended the state government for quick intervention .
