FRSC Recovers Stolen Vehicle In Abuja, Hands Over To Police
The Federal Road Safety Corps has recovered a stolen white pick-up vehicle in the Federal Capital Territory and handed it over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation.
The vehicle, a white pick-up with registration number YAB 677 XD, was recovered in the early hours of Sunday, August 23, 2026, at about 3 am by the Tow Truck Team of the RS7.1 FCT Sector Command along the expressway leading to Berger in the Wuye axis of Abuja.
In a statement signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, on Tuesday, the Corps said the recovery demonstrated the effectiveness of its operational intelligence, vigilance and prompt-response mechanisms, particularly in situations where road safety operations intersect with broader public security concerns.
The FRSC said its personnel discovered the original vehicle documents inside the vehicle and used a telephone number contained in the documents to trace and contact the purported owner. The owner was informed of the recovery, following which arrangements were made to transfer the vehicle to the appropriate security authority for further investigation.
The statement partly read, “The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recorded another significant operational breakthrough in the Federal Capital Territory with the recovery of a stolen white pick-up vehicle and its subsequent handover to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation.
“The vehicle, a white pick-up with registration number YAB 677 XD, was recovered in the early hours of Sunday, 23 August 2026, at about 0300HRS, by the Tow Truck Team of the RS7.1 FCT Sector Command along the expressway leading to Berger in the Wuye axis of Abuja.
“The recovery manifests the growing effectiveness of the Corps’ operational intelligence, vigilance and prompt-response mechanisms, particularly in situations where road safety operations intersect with broader public security concerns.”
The Corps said the Sector Commander, RS7.1 FCT Sector Command, Corps Commander Tijjani Iliyasu, subsequently invited the FCT Police Command to take over the recovered vehicle and commence further investigation into the circumstances surrounding its theft and recovery.
The vehicle was handed over on behalf of the Sector Commander by DCC Sabitu Abdu, fsi, Deputy Corps Commander (Operations), to CSP Nuhu Usman, who received it on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command.
It stated, “Following the recovery, the Corps’ personnel discovered the original vehicle documents inside the vehicle and, through a telephone number contained in the documents, successfully traced and contacted the purported owner. The owner was subsequently informed of the recovery and the necessary steps were initiated to ensure that the vehicle was transferred to the appropriate security authority for further investigation.
“In keeping with the Corps’ commitment to strategic inter-agency collaboration and intelligence sharing, the Sector Commander, RS7.1 FCT Sector Command, Corps Commander Tijjani Iliyasu, formally invited the FCT Police Command to take over the recovered vehicle and commence further investigation into the circumstances surrounding its theft and recovery. The vehicle was subsequently handed over on behalf of the Sector Commander by DCC Sabitu Abdu, fsi, Deputy Corps Commander (Operations), to CSP Nuhu Usman, who received it on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command.”
The Corps further noted that the recovery highlighted the role FRSC personnel could play beyond conventional traffic management, particularly through road surveillance and professional vigilance.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended the FCT Sector Command, particularly the Tow Truck Team, for their alertness, professionalism and commitment to duty.
The statement added, “The development further demonstrates the critical role of FRSC personnel beyond conventional traffic management, as the Corps continues to deploy its operational presence, professional vigilance and road surveillance capabilities in support of the broader national security architecture.
“While the primary mandate of the Corps remains the prevention of road traffic crashes and the promotion of safe road use, the recovery also highlights how alert and professionally deployed FRSC personnel can become an important first line of detection in identifying suspicious situations and protecting lives and property on the nation’s highways.
“The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, mni, FCA, commended the FCT Sector Command and, particularly, the Tow Truck Team for their alertness, professionalism and commitment to duty.”
Mohammed also reiterated the readiness of the FRSC to deepen its collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and other sister security agencies to strengthen information sharing, rapid response and coordinated interventions on the nation’s highways.
“He noted that the recovery was consistent with the Corps’ renewed emphasis on intelligence-led operations, inter-agency cooperation, technological integration and responsive road safety service delivery, stressing that every operational success that protects life and property contributes to the larger national objective of securing Nigeria’s road environment.
“The Corps Marshal further reiterated the readiness of the FRSC to deepen its collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and other sister security agencies towards strengthening information sharing, rapid response and coordinated interventions on the nation’s highways.”
“He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious vehicles, activities or incidents to the appropriate authorities, assuring Nigerians that the Corps remains committed to making the nation’s highways safer, more secure and more responsive to the needs of road users.
“The Corps, therefore, views the successful recovery and handover of the vehicle as another modest but important demonstration of the Corps’ commitment to protecting lives, safeguarding property and strengthening the collective security of Nigerians through professional and intelligence-driven road safety operations”, the statement concluded.
