Man Arraign For Allegedly Defrauding Wife Of Ebonyi House Of Assembly Speaker
By Joyce Onuora Abakaliki
Court of Abakaliki for allegedly defrauding the Wife of the Speaker Ebonyi House Of
Assembly’ Uzoamaka Nwifuru of N3.1m.
The suspect allegedly under false pretence of assisting her to buy a
Belgium Toyota hummer bus and with intent to defraud obtained the said
sum between the month of February and April 2017 at Ogoja road
Abakaliki and absconded.
Mr Ezaka was said to have neither delivered the agreed brand of bus nor
refund the money to Mrs Nwifuru, but rather absconded, hence the suit
numbered MAB/ 604c/2018 pending in Abakaliki Magistrate court was instituted against him.
Sequel to that, the suspect was arraigned by the Nigeria Police before
an Abakaliki Magistrate court presided over by Nnachi Olughu in one count charge of obtaining money under
false pretence and with intent to defraud.
He thereby committed offence contrary to section 1(1)(a)(b)(c) and
punishable under section 1(3) of Advance Fee Fraud Related offences
Act Cap A6 vol 1 laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2006.
Speaking during the court proceedings the Defense Counsel Uche Igba Esq
applied for bail for his client with the claim that he is a Business man
of high repute and could not have absconded from the state because of
N3.1m and that he had a reliable surety who would ensure his
availability whenever needed.
On his part, the Police Prosecutor attached to the court Inspector Mbam
Chinedu opposed the application ,saying the suspect would jump bail and
thereby hinder smooth processes of justice.
But the trial Magistrate Nnachi Olughu,
said that the court  lack competent jurisdiction to
preside in such matter.
She ordered the remand of the suspect Ezaka Ifeanyi in Abakaliki Federal prison.
