Fire Guts Market In Osun

Properties worth N2 million were destroyed by fire on Saturday night at the new Ile-Ife market in Ife Central local government area of Osun State.

Though no live was lost to the fire outbreak, it took the combined effort sympathizers and Osun State fire fighter, Ile-Ife station to put off the fire.

Victims in tears lamented the destruction of their ware which include textile materials, various kind of machines, cooking utensils, household materials among many others.

Speaking to our Correspondent,  the Senior Fire Superintendent, Ife Central Local Government Office, Mr Ismail Adeyinmi, attributed the outbreak to the source of power to a grinding machine in one of the locked up shops in the market.

He noted that though man cannot do without fire, but when misused, the effect can be devastating because at that level it has become hazardous.

 He condemned the care free attitude of some traders who displaces their wares on roads within the market thereby making it difficult for fire fighter to gain access to burning goods.

While victims lamented lost of their wares, the Chairman, Ife Central Local Government Council, Mr Olayera Elugbaju, who sympathized with the victims said a committee will be set up to look into the causes of the disaster and the assistance to be rendered by government.

The Chairman pledged that both the state and his local government will render their assistance as at when due.

Earlier, the Babaloja of the New Market, Chief Abayomi Omoworare, sought the assistance of government at various levels and philanthropist adding that some traders lost all they had to the fire.
