FG Renames Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki

Following the request of Honourable Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole, the federal government has renamed Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, FETHA, to Alex Ekwueme University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki.
The Chairman of the Hospital’s Governing Board, Alhaji Tijani Ramalan, who disclosed this to newmen on Wednesday during the 6th meeting of the Board in Abakaliki.
He stated that the Hospital will now be known as Alex Ekwueme University teaching hospital.
The Board Chairman further disclosed that the new name and logo will be formally unveiled when the Vice President,Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, will visit the hospital.
“The Honourable Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole has approved the adoption of the federal teaching hospital Abakaliki as our university teaching hospital.
“This is a very important step forward of having a name change from Federal teaching hospital Abakaliki to Alex Ekweme University teaching hospital Abakaliki; and this is with immediate effect.
“When His Excellency, the Vice President comes here, we are going to unveil new the name and logo at that important event.
“This is why we feel it is a major achievement in this next level government to have this name changed and we hope that, with this name change, this new institution will be moving to a greater height.
“This development is a blessing from God the Almighty as a lot of benefits will come to the hospital in the areas of funding infrastructural developments by TETFUND and manpower capacity building of staff by the PTDF “.
“With this formal announcement, may I seize this opportunity to thank the Board, Chief Medical Director, management team and staff of Alex Ekwueme University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki for their team work, support and cooperation to the Board which helped immensely in the success recorded in the hospital. ”
“The following successes have been recorded in the hospital since the inception of the board; completion of the construction and furnishing of the 500 seater auditorium, completion of the construction of the lecture hall.
“Purchase and installation of a 5000KVA generating set, purchase and installation of Echo scan, blood Gas Analyzer, Embedding machine; computerisation of the revenue and clinical section of the hospital otherwise called electronic medical recording. ”
On his part, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Emeka Ogah, commended the federal government for changing the hospital’s name, as it would have alot to contribute to the success of the hospital in the near future.
